The designer is given the freedom to envision the future, tasked to achieve it and burdened with the consequences.

Think not only of what you want to achieve, why you want to achieve it and how you’re going to do it, think also of the costs, the burdens and unintended effects. A good designer knows to balance these trade offs fairly.

Good design is responsible.

Projects

E.D.N.

Made of sustainable CoRncrete, the E.D.N. delivers crisp and rich sounds. The unapogoletic concrete design, sets the choice for sustainable materials center stage. Especially challenging was the casting process: CoRncrete had not been used for such large single mold designs before. Crackforming and releasing of the mold proved difficult. Overcoming these problems, yielded a result to behold.

Keep the conversation going

Design for Our Future is on the front of the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, yet one must ask: How inclusive is TU Delft really? As it turns out, Diversity, Equality and Inclusion is something the TU Delft values, yet does not manage to properly execute within its organisation. Designing for Inclusivity requires systemic change in institutions. This project explores a design to cause that change.

Digital Interfaces

Exploring how users explore, experience and interact with digital interfaces, is not only a fun excercise, but is also incredibly useful in understanding the ins and outs of interaction design. I challenged myself to create a living object that feels as lively as possible, whilst being visually as minimal as possible.

RET Car

The design brief was simple: design a vehicle that can move up and down a stretch of road with only the potential energy of a spring. The shortest distance of either going forwards or backwards was the final score. On paper this sounds simple, but for flawless execution, this turns out to be a real challenge. Overcoming resistance, optimizing the gear ratio and manufacturing the design are some of the difficulties one faces. The effort was worth it; our design (startnumber: WB033) achieved the maximum score.

Disc Throwing Competition

Imagine a game in which points can be won by throwing as much frisbees as possible into different targets in a limited amount of time. Now imagine playing this game, not by practicing your throws, but by building a machine to throw it for you. Sounds daunting right? As it turned out, it indeed wasn't easy. I'll have to admit, the fact that the design managed to throw a disc was already a win! In the end we managed to throw it over the proper distance. The biggest lesson though, is that when one deals with vibrations, lock-tight bolts are the way to go!

SwiftPlot

Introducing students to the concept of computer modelling of physics problems can be a daunting task. This application is designed to run on Mac, iPhone and iPad as an accessible and easy tool to create, run and visualise simple physics / math simulations.

GeoTrack

It matters not who goes the fastest, stays on it the longest or endures the most. The adventure does. It starts with setting goals and training hard, but it does not simply end with achieving a goal, a good story never ends, because you can tell it over and over again.

GeoTrack is built from the ground up, to help you do exactly that, by not only being an excellent tracker, but to be so much more. Take photos, listen to music and even create advanced training schedules. All in an elegant, easy-to-use and functionality packed app.

In this series I explored cable cars from different eras in combination with a vintage style. People in the know, won't be surprised by the choice for the Klein Matterhorn Cablecar and Gornergrat Railways :)

Year 2021

Inspired by my experiments with cablecars, I took on different landmarks. The eager eyed will recognize the Matterhorn as a frequently recurring theme.
